UR Medicine Thompson Health will offer an educational program on managing Parkinson’s disease on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Ferris Hills at West Lake, a Canandaigua independent living community. Titled “Living with Parkinson’s Disease and the Importance of Its Physical Management,” the event aims to equip attendees with essential knowledge about the condition and its physical therapies.
The presentation will take place in Rayburn Hall and feature expert insights from Dr. Nami Ranjit Shah, a neurologist with the University of Rochester Medical Center, along with Thompson Health physical therapists Dudley Hallstead and Benjamine Van Heck. Attendees will learn to identify common symptoms and risk factors of Parkinson’s disease, explore the principles of the LSVT BIG program (a specialized movement treatment for those with neurological conditions), and understand the critical role of exercise in managing Parkinson’s symptoms.
Designed for patients, caregivers, and anyone interested in Parkinson’s disease, this free event is open to the public with no RSVP required. For additional details, contact Thompson Health Physician and Community Liaison Nancy Church at Nancy_Church@URMC.Rochester.edu.
