Early voting wrapped up Sunday with significant voter engagement ahead of the general election, with the Ontario County Board of Elections reporting nearly 2,600 more early ballots cast compared to the 2020 election. As of Sunday evening, a total of 17,842 voters had participated in early voting, underscoring heightened interest in this year’s races.
Throughout the early voting period, voter turnout displayed a steady daily average. The busiest days saw more than 2,500 voters, with daily participation counts ranging between 1,700 and 2,500. Ontario County, home to 78,657 active registered voters and 7,361 inactive voters, also managed substantial numbers of mail-in ballots. A total of 5,866 ballots were mailed to civilian, military, and overseas voters, with 4,894 ballots returned as of Sunday.
Data from the county’s report shows a breakdown of early voting participation by party affiliation. Democratic and Working Families Party voters cast a combined total of 6,621 ballots, while Republican and Conservative voters turned in 6,807 ballots. Meanwhile, voters with no party affiliation or affiliated with other parties accounted for 4,414 ballots during the early voting period.
Specific towns showed significant engagement, with sites in Canandaigua, Geneva, and Victor leading the county in early voting numbers. Each of these locations saw high turnout, reflecting strong local voter interest.
In addition to in-person voting, a robust mail-in ballot response was recorded. Out of the mail ballots returned, Democrats and Working Families Party voters accounted for 2,037 returns, Republicans and Conservatives contributed 1,573, and non-affiliated or other party voters returned 1,284 ballots.
With early voting now concluded, the county’s Board of Elections has shifted focus to preparing 44 polling locations across 92 districts for Election Day.
