Deputy Steele of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is being commended for his quick response and compassion after rescuing a dog in distress on Wednesday, October 31. The rescue occurred when the dog, Zowie, got her collar caught in the boards of her family’s porch, leaving her unable to break free.
After receiving the call, Deputy Steele arrived promptly on the scene, using bolt cutters to safely free Zowie from her collar. The Cahn family, Zowie’s owners, expressed their gratitude in a heartfelt letter to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, noting the positive impact Steele’s response had on them. “Sometimes it’s the things that seem small that make the biggest difference in life,” the family wrote.
The 911 dispatcher who took the call was also praised by the family for their professionalism and reassurance during the incident. In appreciation, the Cahn family included a donation with their letter, asking that it be used wherever it is most needed in the department.
The Sheriff’s Office shared the family’s message on social media, acknowledging Deputy Steele and the dispatcher for their teamwork and swift response, which made a difference in the life of Zowie and her family.
