Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) will commemorate Veterans Day with a series of events that include a ceremony, an online lecture, and a public dinner honoring veterans and first responders. The events, open to the community, will begin with a Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the main campus auditorium.
The ceremony will feature a keynote address by Indra Sandal, chief of innovation for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The event will be led by Terrance Dominguez-Hover, president of the FLCC Student Corporation and an Army specialist veteran who served in Afghanistan. FLCC President Robert Nye, a retired Army colonel, and Provost Laura Ortiz will also offer remarks, while the Canandaigua American Legion Post 256 Honor Guard will perform the posting and retiring of colors. FLCC student Jonathan Carbone will sing the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”
The ceremony will be broadcast live on Finger Lakes Television (available on Roku, the web at fingerlakestv.org/live, Spectrum cable channel 1304 in the western Finger Lakes, and the Cablecast app) and on FLCC’s YouTube channel.
Online talk with Medal of Honor recipient
On Thursday, Nov. 14, FLCC’s History, Culture and Diversity series will feature an online talk by Medal of Honor recipient Allen Lynch, who will share his experiences from the Vietnam War. The session, organized by Professor Robert Brown, will run from 8 to 9 p.m. and will be accessible via videoconference or the FLCC YouTube channel. Veterans Dinner
The celebration will culminate in a Veterans Dinner on Friday, Nov. 15, at the FLCC main campus. Open to the public, the event will honor veterans, military personnel, law enforcement, and emergency responders. The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center, followed by dinner and dancing in the café. Tickets are $35 for veterans and $40 for other attendees.
