A 66-year-old Penn Yan woman was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk after an accident left a 12-year-old girl with a leg injury on Tuesday morning, according to local police.
The incident occurred around 7:05 a.m. at the intersection of Liberty and Chapel streets. Authorities reported that Sharon Elwell was turning left from Chapel Street onto Liberty Street when she struck the girl, who was crossing within the crosswalk on her way to school.
The young pedestrian sustained an injury to her left leg and was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Elwell received a ticket for failure to yield to a pedestrian, which she is expected to address in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
