New York State’s effort to collect overdue Thruway tolls is intensifying, with a new proposal to ban vehicles from the highway for unpaid tolls.
The plan would allow the Thruway Authority to temporarily or permanently remove non-compliant vehicles from the nearly 570-mile roadway.
Mixed reactions emerged from Thruway travelers, with some advocating for toll accountability and others questioning the fairness and enforcement of the rule.
The initiative aims to tackle the nearly $276 million owed, much of it by out-of-state drivers.
