A Corning woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly filing false information to receive public assistance benefits she was not eligible for, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Nicollette M. Bennett, 33, was arrested on Oct. 24 following an investigation that revealed she had received $2,795 in benefits from the Steuben County Department of Social Services between March and July. Bennett is accused of filing false documents to obtain these funds, leading to charges of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree, and grand larceny in the fourth degree, all class E felonies.
Bennett was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Bath Court. The investigation was conducted with assistance from the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office.
