Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations has developed an innovative tool to assist job applicants with criminal records. The Restorative Record platform allows individuals to provide context about their past and highlight rehabilitation efforts, aiming to reduce bias in hiring practices.
The tool showcases positive aspects like education, community service, and participation in rehabilitation programs.
Set to pilot within Cornell and expand to the SUNY system, the initiative seeks to improve employment outcomes for formerly incarcerated individuals. By recontextualizing criminal records, Cornell hopes to demonstrate the value this often-overlooked workforce can bring to employers.
