Veterans museum plans halted as Wayne County building faces demolition

Wayne County has decided to demolish the building at 165 Water St. in Lyons, which was once considered for the Wayne-Finger Lakes Veterans Memorial Museum.

According to the Finger Lakes Times, Assemblyman Brian Manktelow had hoped to establish the museum at the county-owned site, but complications, including state easements and high rehabilitation costs, led to the project’s cancellation.

Despite this setback, Manktelow is exploring other locations in Lyons to develop the museum, which will honor the region’s military history. The county plans to transform the Water Street site into a park-like area after demolition.
