Federal funding has been approved to assist several Upstate New York counties affected by severe flooding in August.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that President Biden granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the storms that hit Suffolk, Oswego, and Lewis counties on August 18-19, enabling funds to be used for public infrastructure repairs.
While homeowners will not receive direct assistance, the declaration allows New York access to FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs, which aim to support efforts in reducing future disaster risks. Local governments and non-profits statewide are eligible to apply for these grants.
