Tom Bozzuto, former Chair of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Board of Trustees, and his wife Barbara Bozzuto have committed $1 million to support scientific innovation at the institution. The gift will establish the Bozzuto Family Endowed Fund for Scientific Excellence, ensuring sustained investments in teaching, research, and facilities upgrades.
The Bozzutos’ estate gift will bolster the new integrated science center at HWS, enhancing the school’s commitment to cutting-edge scientific education. “We believe in HWS and its future, and we’re happy to contribute to its continued evolution,” said Tom Bozzuto, a 1968 graduate of Hobart. “The sciences are a critical part of what makes Hobart and William Smith such an extraordinary place.”
HWS President Mark D. Gearan praised the Bozzutos for their long-standing generosity. “Tom has consistently championed our mission, and this gift will allow us to build on our tradition of interdisciplinary education and innovation,” Gearan said.
This latest donation supports the Academic Excellence pillar of HWS’ ongoing “Further Together” campaign, which has already raised $219 million of its $400 million goal. The Bozzuto family has been instrumental in other key initiatives at the college, including the establishment of the Bozzuto Center for Entrepreneurship and the Bozzuto Family First-Generation Endowed Scholarship in 2017. The family’s contributions also include support for the HWS boathouse renovation and various scholarship programs.
Tom Bozzuto, who served in Vietnam and later built a distinguished career in real estate, expressed pride in the progress HWS has made and excitement about the future. “This latest gift reflects our belief in the power of education and the importance of supporting the next generation of leaders,” he said.
