A Geneva police officer was hospitalized after sustaining injuries during a foot chase involving a larceny suspect on North Exchange Street. The pursuit began after 39-year-old Rachel Woodhams-Vasquez allegedly stole $100 worth of merchandise from Dollar General and attempted to flee on a bicycle.
Woodhams-Vasquez abandoned the bike and tried to escape by jumping into Castle Creek, but was apprehended shortly after. She faces multiple charges, including three counts of petit larceny, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration, along with several outstanding warrants.
The injured officer was treated at Geneva General Hospital and released. Woodhams-Vasquez was arraigned and released on appearance tickets, only to be arrested later by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office for another larceny in Waterloo.
