Hobart first-year forward Brady Leitner was tabbed the Liberty League Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week this afternoon. In addition, sophomore midfielder La Zai Outerbridge and junior goalie Thomas Chyzowych were named to the conference’s weekly honor roll.
Hobart went 2-0-0 in league play last weekend collecting six key points to jump into a tie for third in the conference standings. On Friday, the Statesmen beat Rensselaer 1-0. The next day Hobart defeated Union 2-0 as it picked up its third consecutive shutout.
Leitner scored his first collegiate goal, a game winner on Friday against the Engineers. He collected a bouncing ball in the box and slotted a shot into the lower right corner of the cage. The Mahopac, Maryland, native has played in all 13 games this season, starting nine.
Outerbridge scored an insurance goal in Hobart’s 2-0 victory over Union on Saturday. He headed home a Griffin Couts throw-in for his fourth goal of the season. A 13-game starter, Outerbridge leads the Statesmen with four goals and nine points.
Chyzowych played all 180 minutes in goal for the Statesmen, recording two shutouts. On Friday against RPI, he made two saves, including a diving stop in the 89th minute on a shot that was ticketed for the lower left corner of the cage. Against Union, Chyzowych matched his season-high with five saves. He again was called upon to make a big save to preserve the shutout. Chyzowych made a kick save on a shot in the 84th minute. He has played every minute this season and has a 0.85 GAA and a .780 save percentage with five shutouts.
Hobart (4-5-4, 3-2-2) will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 26, to begin a three-game road trip to conclude the regular season. The Statesmen will take on Bard in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, at 2 p.m.
