Cornell University has imposed a three-year campus ban on four students involved in a pro-Palestinian protest that disrupted a career fair on Sept. 18. The protest, which saw attendees push past police to enter the Statler Hotel, led to the arrest of three students, including Atakan Deviren, a sophomore and co-chair of the Young Democratic Socialists of America.
Jacob Berman, president of Cornell’s Jewish Voice for Peace, was also suspended but not arrested. Both students are appealing the university’s decision, which includes automatic disenrollment from classes within three weeks if no appeal is filed.
The suspensions come amid heightened tensions on campus, with several other students facing non-academic suspensions following recent protests.
