The Seneca County Board of Supervisors will hold a series of committee meetings followed by a special board session on Tuesday, October 22, at the county office building in Waterloo. The meetings, which begin at 5:30 p.m., will cover a range of county matters, with a special board meeting set to start at 6:00 p.m.
Among the issues to be addressed during the committee meetings are several important county projects and decisions. The Public Works Committee is expected to review a proposal to authorize an agreement with Day Automation for upgrades to the door control system at the county’s Law Enforcement Center. Meanwhile, the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee will consider the designation of several county properties as surplus and authorize their sale through auction. Additionally, the committee will review plans to send a deputy sheriff for police canine handler training in Pennsylvania and discuss the acceptance of state traffic safety grants for 2025.
Economic development and tourism initiatives will also be on the agenda. The Economic Development, Tourism and Housing Committee is expected to approve the release of tourism promotion funds for the annual Independence Day celebration at Seneca Lake Resorts, and it will consider several appointments to the Finger Lakes Regional Airport Advisory Committee.
The Health and Human Services Committee will address the authorization of a contract for a Child Passenger Safety Program grant, as well as the county’s efforts to issue a request for proposals aimed at addressing opioid misuse.
The special board meeting will follow the committee sessions at 6:00 p.m. A public hearing will be held regarding Seneca County’s current Community Development Block Grant for the Verona Village Renovation Project. A second hearing on the county’s draft Local Solid Waste Management Plan has been postponed until November 12. Other items expected to be discussed during the meeting include various budget amendments and the acceptance of grants, such as a five-year state grant awarded to the county’s Department of Weights and Measures.
