Federal judges overseeing cases related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot have expressed growing concern over the possibility of more political violence ahead of the 2024 election.
Judges like U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton and Judge Jia Cobb fear that inflammatory rhetoric, especially from former President Donald Trump and his allies, could fuel further unrest. Trump, who has downplayed the events of Jan. 6 and called those convicted “patriots,” continues to cast doubt on election results.
With over 1,500 people charged in connection with the riot and hundreds sentenced, the courts are sending a clear message that political violence will not be tolerated.
