A Republican town leader in Cayuga County is endorsing a Democrat. While not an entirely uncommon occurrence in local politics, Owasco Town Supervisor Ed Wagner said it comes down to representation on vital issues related to Owasco Lake.
He endorsed Democrat Ian Phillips in his race against Republican Assemblyman John Lemondes. Wagner cited the increasing threat of harmful algal blooms on Owasco Lake as a key reason for his decision.
Phillips has proposed a comprehensive plan to address HABs, including stronger enforcement against polluters and targeted resources to mitigate pollution.
