The Village of Newark has officially declared November 1, 2024, as “Extra Mile Day,” a day set aside to celebrate those who go above and beyond in service and volunteerism. The Newark Village Board voted to support the initiative, and Mayor Jonathan Taylor issued a proclamation encouraging residents to acknowledge the contributions of individuals and organizations who strive to make a positive impact on the community.
Extra Mile Day highlights the ability of individuals to create change by making personal efforts that benefit families, organizations, and the larger community. The day is part of a broader movement led by Extra Mile America, which aims to inspire cities across the country to recognize those who go the extra mile in their service to others.
The initiative urges residents to not only go the extra mile in their own lives but also to recognize those who serve as inspirations through their efforts to improve the community. Newark joins hundreds of other cities across the U.S. in supporting the Extra Mile America mission, which aims to create 550 Extra Mile cities by 2024.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the celebration by taking time on November 1 to recognize and honor those who consistently give their time and energy to better the community.
