A Farmington resident is facing grand larceny charges after authorities say he illegally collected over $1,000 in public assistance by failing to report additional household income.
Mark A. Cupp, 56, was arrested at his home on 82 3rd Street in Farmington by Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies. According to the Ontario County Department of Social Services, Cupp received $1,057 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits from January through March of last year that he was not entitled to. The department alleges Cupp failed to disclose $10,683.79 in income from a family member living in his household during that period.
Cupp has been charged with one count of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony under New York law. He is scheduled to appear in Hopewell Town Court on October 29 to answer the charge.
Ontario County officials urge anyone with information related to welfare fraud to contact the sheriff’s office through their non-emergency line.
