Google is asking a federal judge to pause an injunction requiring it to allow greater competition in its Play Store, warning of “serious safety, security, and privacy risks” if the order takes effect on Nov. 1.
U.S. District Judge James Donato issued the injunction after “Fortnite” maker Epic Games convinced a jury that Google illegally monopolized app distribution and in-app payments on Android devices. Google, a unit of Alphabet, contends that complying with the order would harm the company and has filed an appeal.
If the request is denied, Google plans to seek relief from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The tech giant aims to overturn the antitrust verdict and maintain its current app store practices.
