Seneca County residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of old electronics and confidential documents later this month at a free event in Waterloo.
The Electronics Recycling & Confidential Document Shredding Event, organized by Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension, Seneca County, and Seneca Meadows, Inc., will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will take place in the north parking lot of the Seneca County Office Building, located at 1 DiPronio Drive.
Attendees can enter through the North Road entrance and stay in their vehicles while volunteers and staff unload items.
Participants can drop off various household electronics for recycling, including computers, televisions, printers, and gaming systems. Items like toasters, dehumidifiers, and light bulbs will not be accepted. A complete list of acceptable items can be found on the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s website.
Confidential documents, such as tax records, medical files, and credit card statements, will also be shredded on-site by Shred-Text Document Inc. The service is intended to help residents safely dispose of sensitive information. Items like newspapers or junk mail should be recycled in blue bins at home.
“We hope to again fill an entire tractor trailer with electronics and fill the document shredder truck as well,” said Ryan Staychock, environmental and natural resources educator at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Seneca County.
Attendees will also have a chance to receive a bag filled with recycling information and tips, while supplies last. Additionally, replacement or extra blue recycling bins will be available for residents who need them.
The event coincides with the first day of early voting in Seneca County. Voters are advised to use the south entrance off Route 5 & 20 to avoid traffic congestion.
No registration is required for the recycling or shredding services.
