A Sodus resident has been sentenced to over two years in federal prison for his role in the violent breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The man, who pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers during the attack, was involved in some of the most aggressive clashes that day, according to prosecutors.
James Weeks, 55, was sentenced to 27 months in prison, 36 months of supervised release, and ordered to pay $2,774 in restitution, along with a $5,000 fine. Court documents reveal that Weeks entered the Lower West Terrace Tunnel, pushed open doors for more rioters, and physically attacked a Metropolitan Police Department officer.
Weeks was arrested in February 2024 by the FBI, and his case is one of many stemming from the Capitol riots that disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election.
