Geneva High School senior Sophie Augustine has been recognized as a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program, a distinction that places her among the top academic performers in the nation.
Principal Gregory Baker, who is also Augustine’s father, presented her with a Letter of Commendation from both the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) during a brief ceremony.
In addition to excelling academically, Augustine serves as co-captain of the Geneva High School girls swim team. Although she has not yet decided on her college or major, she is expected to have a wide range of opportunities.
Augustine is one of about 34,000 students nationwide to be honored as a Commended Student in this year’s competition. These students rank among the top 50,000 performers on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) from over 1.5 million test-takers.
A spokesperson for the NMSC emphasized the significance of this recognition. “Commended Students have shown outstanding potential for academic success. These students are a valuable national resource, and their accomplishments reflect the important role schools play in fostering educational excellence,” the spokesperson said.
The recognition not only highlights Augustine’s achievements but also aims to inspire her and other students to continue pursuing their academic goals.
