Gates Avenue is closed indefinitely after a truck struck the railroad bridge near the city’s Public Works Department, causing significant structural damage.
The Finger Lakes Times reported Monday the underpass, which connects Exchange and Genesee streets, was shut down on September 30 following the incident.
Director of Public Works Joe Venuti told the Times that an emergency detour plan has been put in place in collaboration with Finger Lakes Railway.
Traffic-control devices and signage have been installed to guide motorists, and access to homes and businesses on Gates Avenue remains available via Genesee or Exchange streets. For safety, pedestrian and cyclist traffic is also being detoured.
