Cayuga County’s 911 center is in urgent need of a new backup location after the county office building, which housed the previous backup site, was closed in May for a two-year renovation.
Currently, the Owasco Fire Department serves as a temporary solution, but technical issues with the setup have raised concerns.
Officials said the current arrangement is a stopgap that isn’t reliable for long-term use. Sheriff Brian Schenck echoed these concerns, urging officials to prioritize finding a more permanent solution.
Legislators were surprised by the technical problems and emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan.
