Kansas City swept the Baltimore Orioles in the wild-card series, winning the opener 1-0 before taking the second one 2-1.
Gerrit Cole will start for the Yankees in Game 1, while the Royals starter is to be determined.
This will be the fifth time the Yankees and Royals meet in the postseason and the first since 1980.
The Yankees went 5-2 against the Royals during the regular season.
