The New York Mets were six outs away from sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers and advancing to the National League Division Series, but Phil Maton unraveled in the eighth inning, allowing three runs and the Brewers grabbed a 5-3 victory to force a decisive Game 3 on Thursday.
Maton gave up a game-tying solo home run to Jackson Chourio, who also homered earlier in the game. Then, Maton allowed a go-ahead two-run homer to Garrett Mitchell and the Mets went down in order in the ninth against Brewers closer Devin Williams.
Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Alvarez had RBI singles, while Francisco Lindor added a sacrifice fly.

Sean Manaea tossed five innings of two-run ball before Reed Garrett and Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless frame.
The Mets look to bounce back on Thursday and advance to the NLDS for the first time since 2015. The first pitch is slated for 7:08 p.m.
