A Sunday night house fire in Clifton Springs led to a swift response from multiple fire departments, resulting in the rescue of residents and a search for missing pets.
At 7:53 p.m. on Sept. 22, the Clifton Springs Fire Department, along with units from Phelps Fire Department and Finger Lakes Ambulance, were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Pleasant Street in the village. Assistant Chiefs identified as 501 and 502 responded immediately.
While en route, the Ontario County Sheriff’s communications division alerted the units that multiple calls had reported people trapped inside the residence.
Upon arrival, Assistant Chiefs 501 and 502 confirmed an active fire. Assistant Chief 501 established command of the scene and requested a second alarm, while Assistant Chief 502 began a primary search for occupants.
Engine 531 and Tower 5 arrived shortly after and initiated an interior attack on the fire. Command reported that all family members had been accounted for, but pets were still missing. Firefighters made an aggressive effort to extinguish the flames, bringing the fire under control.
Second alarm crews from Oaks Corners Fire Department stood by on scene as the Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST). Additional assistance came from Manchester Fire Department and Shortsville Fire Department, which aided in fire suppression, overhaul operations, and locating the unaccounted-for pets.
While the Port Gibson Volunteer Fire Department was on standby at the Clifton Springs station, they were dispatched to an automatic fire alarm in the Prestige Mobile Home community.
“We would like to thank all of the departments for their assistance that evening,” the Clifton Springs Fire Department said in a statement.
