An afternoon at Ithaca’s Apple Festival turned confrontational when police arrested a man with numerous outstanding warrants who allegedly resisted officers attempting to detain him.
Jessiah B. Jones, 39, of Ithaca, was recognized by uniformed officers around 1:24 p.m. on September 27 while they were patrolling the festival, according to the Ithaca Police Department. Officers approached Jones, informing him of his active arrest warrants.
When told he was under arrest, Jones allegedly tried to pull away and resist the officers. After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody. Jones faces new charges of resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both Class A misdemeanors, as well as an open container violation under Ithaca City Code.
In addition to the new charges, Jones was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, including 13 counts of trespassing (violations), five counts of petit larceny (Class A misdemeanors), one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (Class A misdemeanor), and one count of second-degree harassment (violation).
As of the latest report, Jones is awaiting arraignment in Ithaca City Court. The Ithaca Police Department reminds the public that all arrested individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
