State Police arrested a Corning man on multiple felony charges following a disturbance in the town of Caton on September 25.
Troopers from SP Painted Post responded to a disturbance on Gridley Road, where they encountered 49-year-old Dana L. McCarrick. During an interview with police, McCarrick retrieved a machete from a box and displayed it toward the trooper. Despite several verbal commands to drop the weapon, McCarrick threw the machete in the direction of the officer and attempted to flee, resisting arrest.
McCarrick was subdued and taken into custody. He was charged with several offenses, including felony counts of Crime of Terrorism: Menacing a Police Officer and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Menacing in the second degree, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, and Criminal Contempt.
McCarrick was processed at SP Painted Post and later taken to Steuben County Jail for arraignment.
