Boeing announced a “best and final offer” to its striking machinists on Monday, including bigger raises and bonuses. However, union leaders swiftly rejected it, stating the proposal failed to address key concerns. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said there would be no ratification vote before Boeing’s end-of-week deadline.
Boeing’s new offer includes a 30% pay increase over four years and raises the ratification bonus to $6,000. Still, the union criticized the lack of pension restoration and maintained that Boeing hadn’t negotiated further after federal mediation.
The strike, which began on September 13, has halted production of key aircraft models. Boeing has started furloughing non-union employees and implemented cost-cutting measures as the standoff continues.
