The Biden administration is set to propose a ban on Chinese software and hardware in connected and autonomous vehicles due to national security concerns, sources told Reuters. The move follows worries about data collection and potential manipulation of U.S. vehicles by Chinese companies.
The proposed rules, expected Monday, would prohibit importing or selling vehicles with key Chinese communications or automated driving systems. The public will have 30 days to comment before finalization, with bans on software and hardware starting in 2027 and 2029, respectively.
The restrictions also target other foreign adversaries, including Russia.
