The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is gathering feedback on potential changes to high school graduation requirements through statewide meetings. The Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures has proposed several transformations, including redefining how students earn credits and simplifying diploma options to better serve all students, including those with disabilities.
Key changes under review include allowing students to earn credits through internships or arts participation and replacing state test requirements with local assessments. The proposals aim to provide flexibility while maintaining rigorous standards for all students.
Community members can share their input through NYSED’s ThoughtExchange platform or attend in-person forums before the final plan is presented to the Board of Regents in November.
