A Western-themed fundraiser hosted by the F.F. Thompson Foundation successfully raised $170,000 to support the development of a new Memory Care Neighborhood at UR Medicine Thompson Health’s Clark Meadows. The event, held on August 29 at Lincoln Hill Farms, drew approximately 275 attendees and featured live music by Dave Turner and Up2Somethin’. Genesee Construction served as the event’s presenting sponsor.
The Memory Care Neighborhood will convert eight of Clark Meadows’ current apartments and add four more to create a specialized, secured unit designed for residents battling dementia. Heather Rickett, director of the F.F. Thompson Foundation, highlighted the need for enhanced care to prevent residents from having to relocate to another facility as their condition progresses.
“There are too few options in our area for families facing memory loss,” Rickett said. “Our goal is to expand Thompson’s continuum of care so what is already a challenging and often devastating diagnosis is no longer accompanied by added stress and anguish.”
The project’s estimated cost is $2.1 million. The Sands Family Foundation has contributed a $440,000 matching gift, and Thompson Health’s auxiliary, the Thompson Health Guild, has pledged $200,000. A golf tournament in June helped kick off the fundraising effort, netting $50,000.
