The Finger Lakes Land Trust has permanently protected 406 acres of prime farmland in the town of Milo, Yates County, through a conservation easement. Owned by Robert and Kay Henderson, the land is operated by Robert and his son Matthew, who grow crops such as corn, wheat, and soybeans. The easement ensures the land will remain undeveloped, preserving its agricultural value.
Located along State Route 14A, the property is near growing commercial areas, making its conservation particularly significant. Funds for the project came from New York’s Farmland Protection Implementation Grants Program, which aims to sustain long-term farming operations.
This newly protected land adds to over 1,100 acres of conserved farmland south of Penn Yan. FLLT has now protected more than 33,000 acres in the Finger Lakes region, focusing on safeguarding water quality, wildlife habitats, and agricultural lands.
