Workers at BorgWarner’s Lansing facility rejected a second labor contract offer, prolonging their strike into its sixth day.
The Ithaca Voice reported that that 67% of workers voted against the latest proposal, which included a 21% wage increase over four years and a $5,500 bonus.
The ongoing strike began on September 8 after an earlier offer was overwhelmingly rejected.
Workers say the wage hikes fail to keep pace with inflation, which has risen by over 21% in recent years. Tensions are heightened as BorgWarner plans to downsize its operations at the Lansing plant by 2026.
