U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer announced that he has secured $820,000 in federal funding to help the Corning Museum of Glass expand its educational programs. The funds, included in the fiscal year 2025 Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations bill, will enhance the museum’s K-12 STEAM initiatives, focusing on underserved school districts across New York, including the Capital Region and New York City.
Schumer praised the museum as a “crown jewel of the Southern Tier’s arts and tourism economy” and emphasized the importance of expanding access to glassmaking and science education for students. The funding will support school-based tours and transportation for underserved students, allowing more children to experience hands-on learning through the museum’s Mobile Hot Shop.
The senator has been a longtime advocate for the museum, having previously secured $10.5 million in relief during the pandemic to keep the institution operational and staff employed.
