Governor Kathy Hochul announced a new outreach effort to encourage individuals impacted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks to register for federal benefits, including the World Trade Center Health Program and September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. The campaign follows the 2023 passage of the 9/11 Notice Act, which requires businesses in the disaster area to inform affected individuals of their rights.
“This effort ensures that the victims of 9/11, including office workers and first responders, are aware of the substantial benefits available to them,” Hochul said. The campaign includes a toolkit designed for businesses to share with employees about how to register for benefits.
In addition, New York State is providing $500,000 to support the 9/11 Museum, and landmarks will be illuminated in blue to honor the victims. Flags will also fly at half-staff across state government buildings in remembrance of those who lost their lives.
