It was an ugly night for the New York Yankees (83-62) as they managed just three singles in a 5-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals (80-66) on Tuesday in the Bronx and their lead in the American League East shrunk to a half-game.
Gleyber Torres had two of the three hits, with the other coming from Austin Wells. New York did not get a runner past first base.
Marcus Storman surrendered three runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings while walking two and striking out four. Mark Leiter Jr. and Tim Mayza each allowed a run.
The Yankees look to bounce back and take two of three from the Royals on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., with Luis Gil on the bump.
