A public hearing regarding the establishment of the Odessa Area Consolidated Fire District will take place on September 18 at 6 p.m. in the Odessa-Montour High School auditorium. The hearing is open to all residents served by the Odessa Fire Department.
Supporters of the fire district formation argue that it will standardize tax rates, allow for long-term planning, and create more stable governance. By forming a district, the department would be free from town and village politics and would have greater budget transparency and accountability under state oversight.
However, concerns remain over potential loss of local control and resistance from some elected officials. The Odessa Hose and Chemical Company encourages all residents to attend the hearing and participate in the discussion.
