The New York Yankees announced several roster moves prior to Monday’s series opener against the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium.
In the biggest move, top prospect Jasson Domínguez was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 21-year-old, who made his Major League debut last September and appeared in nine games, including one this season, will bat sixth and play center field on Monday night.
Veteran third baseman DJ LeMahieu was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hip impingement. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters that he will undergo an MRI and it remains to be seen if he will return this season.
Utilityman Jon Berti, who has been out since May 24 with a left calf injury, was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.
Outfielder Duke Ellis was optioned to Triple-A and left-hander Anthony Misiewicz was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
The Yankees hold a half-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East with 19 games remaining in the regular season.
