For the first time since its 1999 installation, Odessa’s 444,000-gallon water tower was cleared of sediment on Tuesday as part of the village’s water improvement project.
A diver from Atlantic Underwater Services Inc. removed six to eight inches of sediment from the bottom of the tank on Texas Hollow Road.
The sediment, which accumulated over 25 years, had caused discolored water, according to DPW Chief Steve Siptrott.
This cleaning may become an annual task. Phase 1 of the water project, including new pipe installations, will lead into Phase 2, building a new treatment plant later this year.
