Steuben County Judge Delays Proceedings for Man Accused of Sister’s Murder

A Steuben County judge has agreed to postpone future court proceedings for John Marvin II, the 59-year-old charged with the murder of his sister, Heather Moran, in Erwin this past February.

The delay, requested by Marvin’s public defender, is to allow additional psychological testing to explore any potential undiagnosed psychological or emotional issues, though it is not intended to assess his legal competence.

The incident occurred in February when police responded to a home in Erwin and found Moran, 60, severely injured after an altercation with her brother.

State Police allege that Marvin repeatedly struck his sister in the head with a cast iron skillet while she was eating with their 81-year-old father. Although their father attempted to intervene, he fell from his wheelchair but was unharmed. Marvin’s next court appearance is scheduled for October.
