Governor Kathy Hochul highlighted a statewide decline in crime, with New York communities ranked among the safest in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
“Public safety is my top priority,” Hochul stated, noting that statewide crime is down 6% year-over-year. Hochul has invested over $800 million in crime-fighting initiatives, including $36 million for the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative and $21 million for the SNUG Street Outreach program, aimed at reducing gun violence and improving community safety.
These investments, combined with the efforts of local law enforcement and community organizations, have positioned New York as a leader in crime reduction, with four counties in the top ten safest in the nation. Hochul emphasized that while progress has been made, the work to ensure safety across the state continues.
