Cayuga County’s social services department has been awarded over $330,000 in unexpected state funding to support vulnerable families.
Announced by Governor Kathy Hochul as part of a $17.2 million Family-Centered Services initiative, the funds will allow local departments to address challenges such as domestic violence, homelessness, and mental health issues.
Officials said they were surprised by the funding, but welcomed the opportunity to enhance support for struggling families.
The funding will enable the department to hire up to seven full-time employees to provide intensive case management services.
