A Smithville Flats man admitted to making a violent threat on Facebook and illegally possessing firearms while under a domestic violence order. James Kenyon, 52, pleaded guilty to the charges, which could result in up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
Kenyon’s December 2022 Facebook post threatened to decapitate someone and urged them to leave the state. Weeks later, he was found in possession of two rifles and a shotgun, despite being prohibited from owning firearms due to a restraining order.
The FBI led the investigation, and Kenyon has agreed to forfeit the firearms. Sentencing will be determined by a federal judge.
