Newark-Wayne Hospital hosts MedQuest camp for aspiring health professionals

Newark Wayne Community Hospital recently hosted a MedQuest Career Camp, offering local high school students a hands-on experience in healthcare. The event, organized by Rochester Regional Health, brought together 14 students from across the region for a day filled with workshops and lectures, covering topics from emergency care and infection prevention to radiology and neonatal simulation. Participants also explored various therapies and viewed a Mercy Flight Central helicopter.

Dr. Dustin Fanciullo, Chief of Surgery, emphasized the program’s role in community engagement and education. “MedQuest is a vital way for Rochester Regional Health to invest in our future healthcare workers,” said Fanciullo, who led a workshop on surgical sutures. Dr. Brian Watkins, another RRH surgeon, demonstrated laparoscopic techniques using advanced equipment.

The camp aims to inspire students by providing insights into diverse healthcare careers. “Our goal is for participants to leave with a deeper understanding of healthcare opportunities and enjoy the experience,” said RRH Nurse Educator Dena Chapman.
