Southwest Airlines has ceased its year-round daily non-stop flights from Syracuse Hancock International Airport as of today, citing a “widespread reduction of service across its network,” according to the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority. The airline, known for its open seating policy, began operations at the airport in November 2021, initially connecting Syracuse with Baltimore and Orlando before expanding to other cities.
SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri noted that while Syracuse’s market performed as expected, challenges such as Boeing aircraft delivery delays forced the airline to prioritize other locations. Southwest also ended service at Bellingham, Cozumel, and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Passengers with bookings after August 4 are being rebooked through Rochester or Albany and may change or cancel their itineraries without penalty. Despite Southwest’s departure, Syracuse remains served by American, Delta, United, Allegiant, Breeze, and JetBlue.
