New York State has started issuing approximately $350 million in supplemental payments to low- and moderate-income families through the Empire State Child Credit Program. Governor Kathy Hochul announced that one million families will receive up to $330 per child by the end of August.
The first round of checks was mailed on Monday, with delivery continuing over the next two weeks. Families with children under 17 and incomes up to $110,000 are eligible for the credit, with payments ranging from 25 to 100 percent of last year’s child tax credit.
Governor Hochul emphasized that no action is required to receive the payment, stating, “It’s just going to come to them.” The timing is intended to aid families with back-to-school expenses, with over 100,000 checks distributed daily.
