Sodus students take action on climate change with innovative camp project

Sodus middle school students tackled climate change by presenting their solutions to community stakeholders on August 1 at Sodus Jr./Sr. High School. As part of the eighth annual Planet Protector Summer Camp, 30 students investigated the uneven impacts of climate change, emphasizing social, economic, and health disparities. The camp was organized by graduate students from the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education and Human Development, in collaboration with the Sodus Central School District.

Throughout the week, campers, guided by preservice teachers, analyzed how climate change affects different communities and proposed sustainable solutions. The event concluded with students presenting their findings through interactive displays to local leaders and the public.

The event celebrated student-led learning and the role of education in addressing environmental challenges.
